Stay up to date on the Simi Valley Market
The city of Simi Valley is in the southeast corner of Ventura County, about 30 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. This quaint commuter bedroom community is nestled between the Simi Hills and the Susana Mountain range, northeast of the Conejo Valley, and west of the San Fernando Valley. It is one of many suburban cities feeding the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley area, as well as other cities to the west in Ventura County. Simi Valley is also home to The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where former President Reagan was buried. Additionally, Simi Valley has ranked twice as being the country’s 18th most conservative city. In 2016, the first Republican primary debates were hosted at the Reagan Library. In addition to that, the University of Vermont did a study that ranked Simi Valley as the fifth-happiest city in America. The history of this land that present-day Simi Valley was built upon began about 10,000 to 12,000 years ago when the Chumash Native Americans settled here. The Chumash had a strong presence in the Santa Monica Mountains to the Salinas Valley. The word “Simi” is derived from the Chumash word “Shimiiy,” which means “stringy, thread-like clouds,” referring to the cirrus clouds that typify the region. Simi Valley was incorporated on October 10, 1969.
Despite the Los Angeles area being known for its big-city lifestyle, suburban cities such as Simi Valley are surrounded by millions of acres of natural green space. One excellent example is the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park, which sits between Chatsworth and Simi Valley and encompasses approximately 680 acres. It is a favorite place for hikers due to the panoramic views, abundant variety of plant and animal life, as well as being rich in historical, cultural, and archaeological significance. In addition to that, there is the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, which is one of California’s open space nature preserves. Visitors can access the park via two preserve trailheads: Victory Trailhead and Las Virgenes Canyon Road Trailhead. These trails are available for walking, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding during the sunlight hours, seven days a week. Adding to Simi Valley’s allure is Simi Valley Town Center located at 1555 Simi Town Center Way, which is an upscale lifestyle center featuring anchor stores such as Macy’s, Marshalls, and Bath & Body Works. Restaurants include California Pizza Kitchen, Go Fish Sushi, Coconut Crab, and Larsen’s Grill.
